I show people how to find their true purpose in life. In this article, I'd like to share how I lost my own purpose and found it again, and how that led to the workshops that now help others find it.
Back in 2015, I developed a process that helped people find their true purpose in life. I shared it with a few people, ran a couple of workshops about it, but eventually moved on to other things. Consequently, that process got put into the bottom drawer, where it sat gathering dust for years.
In February 2024, I had some friends visit, and one of those friends was a little stressed about what to do in life. So I said, “Hey, I have this purpose-process that might help, would you like to try it?”. He said, “Sure” and so we sat down, got out a piece of paper, and I showed him the purpose-process I developed back in 2015.
The purpose-process immediately confirmed to him that the new direction he was planning to take in life, was not right direction for him. What it did instead, was shown him another path more suited to him, that he already knew he wanted to do deep down but just wasn't 100% sure about. But when it appeared on his sheet of paper, he got the confirmation he needed.
His partner was also watching all this unfold, and so she also decided to do the purpose-process as well — except she got confirmation she was already on the right path, which she thought was amazing!
And so, for the next three or four days, we talked about their results, and the process itself, and had a wonderful time. Eventually they had to return home, so I bid them farewell, and went back to doing what I was doing, which was working on what I thought was my own perfect purpose.
I was spending about 60 to 70 hours on it, trying ot get it off the ground. It was hard work, the progress was really really slow, and there were all sorts of issues and dramas. It was wearing me down.
That’s when I thought to myself, “Hang on a second! Maybe this isn't the right purpose for me. Maybe I should do my own purpose process and find out what I am really supposed to be doing with my life?”.
So I did. I sat down, got out a piece of paper, and did my own purpose-process. To my surprise, it clearly showed me that I was indeed on the wrong track, and there was another better purpose more aligned with who I was — purpose coaching. That really surprised me, because I was convinced I was doing the right thing, living on purpose, heading in the right direction, doing what I should be doing in life.
But I wasn't. So in disbelief, I did the purpose-process again, and again, and again, hoping for a different answer. But, it just kept giving me the same answer, over and over again, and if anything, the answer got clearer and clearer — purpose coaching!
Isn't that the most paradoxical thing you've ever seen — I used my purpose process, to find my purpose, which is to use my purpose process, to help other people find their purpose.
And that's exactly what I am doing now at findtruepurpose.com — purpose coaching. Helping people find, live, and support their own unique true purpose in life.
My experience taught me a valuable lesson. It reminded me of what it feels like to lose track of your true purpose, and head down the wrong track. And I had no idea. I was too busy trying to make the 'wrong purpose' work — 60-70 hours a week! I was silently slipping into a depressing struggle - working harder and harder but not really seeming to get very far, or enjoy it much (now that I look back on it).
Luckily for me, my friend's visit led to me getting my purpose back. And here I am, living that true purpose, everything in life is flowing again, and I am a WHOLE lot happier and more focussed. And I would love to help you do the same.
