You Don’t Need to Know How

In our Level 2 workshop workshop, we show people how to get started, so they actually live the true purpose they found in Level 1 — turn the dream into a reality, rather than just thinking about it.

But that requires a person to make a committed decision to actually live it, and that’s where people can often get stuck in indecision or hesitation. A person’s fear program sees such a decision as final — no turning back — and that freaks it out a bit. This is the internal resistance most people experience as anxiety, hesitation, doubt, and indecision.

They either decide not to live their purpose, or they put the decision off till later, or they limit their purpose to make it ‘safer’. All of which can suck the passion right out of a true purpose, so they eventually don’t do it or quit.

And that tends to happen most in the first 48 hours after making the decision — before any action is taken. That’s the danger zone. 48 hours is usually all the time it takes for their fear program to try and shut their decision down.

That’s why, ideally In our Level 2 workshop, we show people four simple but powerful steps to help them live the true purpose they found in Level 1.

And one of the common blocks people face when living their purpose is worrying about “The How” — “How will I do this?”, “How will I pay for it?”, “How will I find the time?”, “How will I make money out of this?”, “How will I cope if I fail?”

That’s your fear program’s old habit of wanting to know how to do everything before any action is taken. That’s one of the ways it stalls you, because it’s absolutely impossible to know how to do that before you start. Heck, it’s impossible to know that even after you’ve finished!

In fact — and this may shock you — you don’t actually need to know how you’re going to achieve any part of your purpose … before you begin and as you go along.

Yes! Really!

You can’t, and you don’t need to. You make the decisions, learn the skills, express yourself, and deepen your understanding — as you go along.

You know as you go. And doing so is what builds more courage, skill, personality, and expertise.

You can’t do that in the future, so you don’t need to know how to do that in the future. You can only do what you can do, right now, in this very moment. If you wait to know it all before you start — you’ll be dead!

In fact, it’s better if you don’t know. That’s what makes living a new purpose in life such an exciting journey of discovery and surprise. Again, you know as you go. So let your purpose surprise you. Let your capabilities surprise you. Let your plans even surprise you. Just get started, and figure out the rest later on. You always have. You always will.

And plus, most of the stuff you think you need to know before you can start — you already know! Any purpose — no matter how big it might seem — is nothing more than a series of small, easily achievable, and mostly enjoyable steps. For example, write another sentence, make a phone call, go shopping for supplies, practice an extra 10 minutes, book an appointment, and so on.

You already have decades of skills and experience in countless fields, which is more than enough to accomplish such steps. You’ve done them (or similar) a thousand times before, you have the capacity to learn the steps you can’t do, or you can pay someone to do the steps you truly can’t do.

It doesn’t need to be perfect — it just needs to be done.

In that regard, there really is no step that cannot be achieved, and since a purpose is a series of small steps, there is really no purpose that cannot be achieved.

It’s only the fear program that focuses on all the steps you need to know how to do all at once. That’s enough to overwhelm anyone into thinking, “I don’t know how to do all that, so I cannot get started!”.

But it’s bullshit. You only need to know how to do the next logical steps in your purpose, which you probably already know how to do. The rest you know as you go. So get started.

But do Level 2 to make it easier, and do Level 1 if you don’t know your purpose.
